What We Love About San Pedro
Southern California is famously known for major beach cities like Santa Monica, Venice, and Malibu, but we suggest visiting beach communities like San Pedro to get a different take on what LA beach cities have to offer. Because when it comes to the characteristics of what you’d imagine a beach city to be, San Pedro has all that and more.
Yes, it has all the beach city charms with its harbor cruises, whale watching, and famous waterfront restaurants, but it’s the town’s ability to stay true to its small-town, working-class roots that captivated our attention.
So, what do love most about San Pedro? For starters, it’s conveniently positioned within just a short commute of our El Segundo and Torrance locations. But, we mainly love it because the laidback beach vibes mix perfectly with its rich history, cultural attractions, buzzing art scene, and eclectic shops, to yield the perfect destination for those who want a beach city with a little bit more spunk and personality.
Some of the must-see attractions include the Point Fermin Lighthouse, Sunken City, Korean Friendship Bell, Fort MacArthur Museum, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, White Point Nature Preserve, and Los Angeles Maritime Museum.
But for us, no San Pedro trip is complete without a quick visit to Crafted, a handmade artisan marketplace located inside a restored 1940s warehouse in the Port of Los Angeles. And if shopping got you feeling thirsty, across from Crafted is Brouwerij West, which is a must-try brewery that is known to attract tasty food trucks and occasional live entertainment.
If you’re a fan of theater and appreciate Art Deco, then you’ll want to catch a performance at the Warner Grand Theatre, which was built in 1931 by architect B. Marcus Priteca, who is responsible for Hollywood’s iconic Pantages Theater.
One of our favorite ways to explore the waterfront is by riding the San Pedro Downtown Trolley, a free service that allows you to simply hop on and hop off at stops like the San Pedro Fish Market, San Pedro’s Historic Downtown, and the Battleship IOWA Museum.
At Sports & Spine, we’re committed to making sure our neighbors in San Pedro get back to doing what they love most—by doing what we love most.
