What We Love About Venice
The artistic, bohemian beach town of Venice is located right on the ocean, just south of Santa Monica. Venice lies within Los Angeles County, on the west side of town. It’s conveniently positioned within just a short commute to our El Segundo and Torrance locations.
Venice was founded in 1905 and so named after its multiple canals, similar to the European city bearing the same name. In fact, it was originally called Venice of America when it was founded by tobacco tycoon Abbot Kinney. He initially created Venice as a beach resort town 14 miles west of downtown Los Angeles.
In the later half of the century, Venice became a cultural hub for artists from all over the world. In the 1950s and 60s, it was a nexus of the Beat Generation, with an explosion of poetry and art created there. Venice was also home to classic rock band, The Doors, which was founded there in 1965.
There are many, many tourist destinations in Venice. Popular locales include the Ocean Front Walk, the Venice Farmers Market, the Venice Breakwater, the Muscle Beach outdoor gym, and, of course, Venice Beach. Ocean Front walk is an amusement park-like promenade with rides, offbeat performers, artists, and vendors. Venice’s main drag, named after the town’s founder Abbot Kinney, features stylish boutiques, unique local restaurants, and hospitable coffee shops.
Surfing and fishing are popular activities in Venice that utilize the area’s abundant natural resources. The Venice Breakwater is an acclaimed surfing hotspot and the Venice Fishing Pier is the most popular place to cast a line.
In the past few years, Venice has seen a tremendous uptick in property values, as Google and Snap, Inc. have moved into the area. Other tech companies have followed suit and the town has even been called a mini-Silicon Valley.
